This vibrant hardcover catalogue accompanies the Museums at W&L’s inaugural Artist-in-Residence exhibition by Stephanie Shih: LONG TIME NO SEE (好久不見), running from August 28, 2024, to June 7, 2025. This beautifully produced catalogue features 15 full-color reproductions of Shih’s thought-provoking series of still-life photographs that reimagine ceramics drawn from the nationally renowned Reeves Collection of Chinese export porcelain as vessels of diasporic history and cultural heritage. Through her work, Shih explores themes of identity, race, and belonging, providing a richer understanding of both historical and contemporary diasporic experiences in the Asian community. Engaging texts by curators and scholars reveal the nuanced history of the China Trade, and explore themes of commerce, labor, and identity through the lens of Chinese export ceramics and Shih’s photographic series.
